Registered as JL Kelos Royal Star, this 6-year-old Appaloosa gelding earned his barn name because of his peaceful, friendly, free-spirited nature. He’s that rare kind of horse who makes people feel good just being around him—gentle, intuitive, and so happy to go along with whatever kind of day you have planned.

Hippie stands a solid, well-balanced 15.1 hands and has a look that turns heads. His unique blanket coloring, kind expression, and strong, athletic build make him just as pretty as he is practical. He has a soft eye that says “I’ve got you,” and he means it. He’s never in a rush, never in a mood, and always shows up with a calm, willing attitude. This is a horse that truly enjoys people—he doesn’t just tolerate attention, he thrives on it. Whether it’s scratches in the pasture, slow grooming sessions, or just quietly standing with you while you chat at the trailer, Hippie wants to be your buddy.

He’s been used in real working environments and carries the confidence and steadiness that only comes from experience. Hippie has worked regularly at the Joplin, Missouri stockyards—twice a week this past summer—penning, sorting, and moving cattle in fast-paced, noisy, high-pressure settings. He knows how to read a cow, maneuver a gate, and handle tight spaces without ever getting frazzled. He’s just as sharp and capable as any full-time ranch horse, but with a calmer, smoother ride and a sweet disposition that sets him apart.

And when the work is done? Hippie is all about the trail. This gelding lives for a peaceful ride out in the hills or down a dirt road. He crosses water, navigates rough terrain, and goes out alone or with a group without batting an eye. He’s sure-footed, relaxed, and always willing—never barn sour, never buddy-bound, and never in a hurry to get back to the trailer. He’ll happily carry a novice rider, give confidence to someone nervous, or let an experienced horseperson appreciate just how truly broke and enjoyable he is.

Under saddle, Hippie has all the qualities that make a horse a joy to ride. His lope is smooth, with a natural control, and soft, and he picks it up with ease. His trot is quiet and fluid—easy on the rider’s back and easy to sit for miles. He responds willingly to leg pressure, works off your seat, and carries himself with balance and softness. He sidepasses to the mounting block without being asked twice and stands rock solid while you climb on. He’s the kind of gelding that gives you a safe, steady ride without being dull—and one who always has a little extra “try” when you need it.

He’s also a total gentleman to handle. Easy to catch in the pasture, stands tied without a fuss, loads and unloads quietly, and is good for the vet and farrier. Hippie is also current on absolutely everything. He’s up to date on dental work (he is missing one adult tooth which can be seen in his dental records), routine chiropractic care, vaccinations, deworming, and farrier maintenance.
